Importance of tile flooring

Tile flooring has been around for a long period of time.  Tile flooring was used as far back as ancient Greece and Rome.  The tile at that time was mostly made of marble or other polished stones. Find some of the best floor tile stores today.

Tile flooring used in homes today is mostly made from ceramic.  Ceramic is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and wears well in homes.  Ceramic tile flooring is something that most people are willing to pay to have installed in their homes.

Tile flooring of years ago consisted of linoleum squares.  While these were durable and easy to install, they did not have the aesthetic quality of ceramic tile.  Ceramic tile flooring became very popular in the 1960s in the United States.  Prior to that, linoleum was king.

Early ceramic tile flooring consisted of little squares strung together on mesh.  You would install the squares and then grout over them, giving the appearance of mosaic on the floor.  By the 1980s, tile flooring began moving to larger squares and the small square tiles were out of fashion.

Tile flooring consisting of marble is very expensive and is not used in most homes, particularly because some ceramic tile can be polished to give the appearance of marble.  However, some people who want the very best in tile flooring can still choose marble for their floors, at a much greater cost.

Like everything else in home décor, the trends for tile flooring have changed steadily throughout the ages when it comes to design, texture and materials.
